Obituary of Janice Purkey
Janice Elaine Purkey, of Moberly, passed away April 8, 2021 at University Hospital in Columbia, MO after a brief illness. She was born in Phoenix, AZ to William Bardo and Mildred Downer Bardo.
Due to her father’s occupation, Janice attended many different schools before graduating and going on to college where she became a registered nurse. In 1964 she married Ken Purkey in Lincoln, NE and the two spent over 56 years together.
Janice and Ken spent their working careers in many different states and even overseas before relocating to Moberly in the 70’s.
Janice was an active member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Moberly and helped with different school projects. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and especially babysitting her beloved grandchildren.
Janice is preceded in death by her parents, William and Mildred.
Survivors include her husband, Ken Purkey of Moberly; Children, Douglas (Kelly) Purkey, Sr, of Cairo and Susan Cysneros of Phoenix, AZ;4 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; siblings, Bill (Patty) Bardo of Mesa, AZ and Eva (Elmer) Sundean of Chandler, TX; step siblings, Paulette (Tom) Murphey of Lincoln, NE, David Pettit of Dallas, TX and Esther (Jeff) Visbal of Calimesa, CA; extended family and friends.
A memorial celebration honoring Janice will be held on April 26th, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, MO.
