Obituary of Walter Darrel Hansen

Walter Darrel Hansen, age 73, of Moberly, Missouri, went home to sing with his Savior, on July 30, 2020 at Columbia University Hospital.

 

Darrel was born on May 28, 1947 in Orofino, Idaho to Harry and Nellie Hansen (Bonner). As a first generation American from Denmark. 

 

He graduated from the Weippe High School and studied at Lewis - Clark State College, University of Idaho and Oklahoma Wesleyan University.  Darrel then used his talents to become a Pastor of the Wesleyan Church at three different congregations before accepting a job with Ameren Missouri with whom he retired. 

 

He married Jean Davidson on June 15, 1968 in Mexico, Missouri and the two had just celebrated their 52nd Wedding Anniversary. 

 

He continued to serve his community by being the Former President of the Randolph County Ambulance District, Former President of the Boone Electric Cooperative, Chaplain of the Moberly’s Sheriff Department and Chaplain of Troop B of Macon Highway Patrol. He was also a proud member of the First Assembly of God Church where he was a Deacon for many years and a coach for the Bible Quiz competitions. 

 

When he wasn’t serving his community he fully enjoyed hunting, fly fishing, singing and playing the guitar, being on the phone with everyone he loved (he was always on the phone), being the “official" photographer for his grandkids life events and traveling around the world with his wife visiting 6 countries and 48 states.   

 

He is preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Nellie and sister, Joy. Darrel is survived by his wife, Jean Hansen of Clark, Missouri; son, Russell Hansen of Stewartsville, New Jersey and daughter, Lori Link and husband Michael of Menifee, California; grandchildren, Ale Martinez of Carlsbad, California, Christian Risch of Clark, Missouri, Quinton Risch and fiancé Kerri of Quincy, Illinois and Amber Beaman and husband Ryan of Cairo, Missouri; great granddaughter, Rylee Beaman of Cairo, Missouri and brother, Gene Hansen of Lewston, Idaho. 

 

A memorial visitation celebrating Darrel’s life has been scheduled for Sunday, August 02, 2020 from 2:30 pm until 5:00 pm at First Assembly of God Church in Moberly, Missouri. 

 

A Facebook live event will be at 2:00 pm - 2:30 pm for a quick memorial service and the link will be provided at https://www.facebook.com/MoberlyFirst/.  Following the Live Event, friends and family are welcome to come to the church to pay their respects to the family.

 

In compliance with COVID and the Safety of our family, we ask for you to please wear a mask and recommend stay time is 10 - 15 min after you speak with the family. Per Darrel’s wishes, he will not be having a funeral service or grave site visit. We thank you for your support and love during this time.
