Obituary of William Oscar Burk

William Oscar “Bill” Burk, 98 of Macon passed away quietly on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at Loch Haven Senior Living Center.

 

Bill was born March 29, 1924 in Rippey Iowa to Oscar Nicolas Burk and Vonnie Schilling Burk.

 

Bill graduated as Valedictorian of his class from Rippey High School and went on to attend Northern Iowa College, AIB, UMKC, and University of Missouri.

 

Bill spent several years teaching math at Center High School in Kansas City.  He also worked as an accountant for the IRS.

 

Bill was honored to serve in the United States Army from January 1943 until February of 1946.  After his discharge Bill worked for the United States Atomic Energy Commission in the Pacific.

 

Bill was well traveled, an accomplished pianist, and a proud member of the Turtles Bicycle Club.  He rode his bike one hundred miles in one day the year he turned 92.  He lived a very full and interesting life! 

 

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Vonnie; brother-in-law, Russell Holz and niece, Mary Jane Holz.  

 

Survivors include two sisters, Camilla (Gerald “Jiggs”) Miner and Jeanette Holz all of Macon; his very dear friend Ray Hill; several nieces and nephews; extended family and friends.

 

A memorial graveside service with full military honors will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, July 30, 2021 at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, Missouri to celebrate Bill’s life.
