Obituary of Jerry Cerveny

Jerry Delbert Cerveny, 81, of Moberly, passed away peacefully February 17, 2021 surrounded by his family at the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital, Columbia, Missouri.

Jerry was born the sixth of seven children to Marguerite and Wesley Cerveny on May 5, 1939 in Mission, South Dakota. The Family relocated to Missouri when Jerry was in elementary school. He attended Higbee High School, where he was known for his basketball talent. He would later go on to graduate from the University Of Missouri, Rolla School of Engineering with a Civil Engineering Degree. After graduation, Jerry served in the Vietnam Conflict as a US Navy Officer aboard the USS Constitution. His service would take him to Bremerton Washington, where he would meet and marry his sweetheart of 53 years Mary Katherine. Jerry was a beloved brother, father & grandfather.

Preceding Jerry in death his beloved wife, Mary Katherine; sons, Rory and Christopher; parents, Wesley and Marguerite; siblings; Lawrence, Phillip, Alvin Cerveny, Edna Apel and Caroline Kanatzer.

Survived by his children, Marcy Orwig, Angie Stephenson, Jerry Daniel Cerveny; siblings, Marie Sisley of Rapid City, South Dakota; grandchildren, Cyndal (Kyle) Glynn, Christoper ( Maya) Orwig, Raymond (Emily) Orwig, Chelsea (Nick ) Cerveny, Bryanna ( Eric) Wise, Audri Orwig, Steven Johnston , Bobby Johnston; great grandchildren,  Liam, Beckett, Vincent,  Maxwell, Brinley, Harper, Madden and Lydia; extended family and close friends.

Graveside services celebrating Jerry Delbert Ceveny’s life will be held on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Oakland Cemetery in Moberly, Missouri. Interment will follow with full military honors.

Pathway Memorial Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
