Obituary of Juilane Ann VanHouten

Juilane Ann VanHouten, 89, of Moberly passed away on January 19, 2021, at the home of Lewis and Mary Ellen VanHouten surrounded by family.  She was born April 26, 1931 to James Robert and Beulah Emaline (Wheatcraft) Chevalier in Kirksville, MO. 

On September 17, 1950 she married Norval Freeman VanHouten and they spent the next 65 years in Moberly. Juilane was a devoted wife and mother. She worked at Uregas and Modern Equipment Company.  Always a faithful servant, she served as a volunteer administrator and kitchen manager at Central Christian Church for many years. Juilane also served as a Boy Scout leader and was selected as a Silver Beaver recipient in recognition of her many years of distinguished service. She was a member of ABWA and chaired many ham and bean fund raiser dinners.  She was a life member of P.E.O.

Those preceding Juilane in death are her parents, her loving husband Freeman, her oldest son David and a sister, Jan (Chevalier) Patton.   

Survivors include her children, Cheryl (Robert) Cheek of Washington, OK, Scott (Angela) VanHouten of Moore, OK and Lewis (Mary Ellen) VanHouten of Moberly, MO. Grandchildren include Justin Cheek of Oklahoma, City, OK, Lindsey Cheek of Washington, OK, Hillary (Lucas) Appling and Erika (Dustin) Holzinger of Moberly, MO, Diana VanHouten of Noble, OK and William VanHouten of Moore OK, Great grandchildren, Kimberlin and Caden Cheek of Oklahoma City, OK, Jaxson and Emalyn Appling, Adalyn and Paisley Holzinger all of Moberly, MO. Surviving siblings include Jimilee (Chevalier) Patterson, Jerry (Carol) Chevalier, and Robert (Sandy) Chevalier as well as extended family and friends. 

A private family service will be held at a later date.  Inurnment will be at the Missouri State Veteran’s Cemetery in Jacksonville, MO.  In leu of flowers memorial contributions in Juilane’s memory are appreciated and can be sent to the First Christian Church, 300 East Coates St., Moberly, MO 65270 or Jefferson Avenue United Methodist Church 323 Jefferson Ave., Moberly, MO 65270.

 

When God calls a Mother home, she may no longer reside on this earth, but she will always be in our hearts.
