Obituary of Robert E. Halley
Robert (Bob) Halley, age 97, of Moberly, MO passed away Saturday, December 5, 2020. He was born in 1923 in Huntsville, MO, the son of James and Lucy Halley.
Bob married Velma in 1944, at the Central Christian Church parsonage in Moberly, by the Reverend C.W. Cornn. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 76 years, daughter, Kathy Rieser (Ken), son, Jim Halley (Claudia), grandson, Marc Holloway (Katie), great grandson, two step-grandsons and one step granddaughter and several step-great grandchildren, sister, Barbara Henderson (Ray) plus numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Elmer Halley (Sallie), four half-brothers, and three-half sisters and his sister-in-law Marie Bagby (Tyson).
Bob graduated from Huntsville High School in 1942, served with the U.S. Navy, and received an honorable discharge. During his career, he worked for J.C. Penny Co, Ace Electric, and Missouri Power and Light (Ameren) Missouri), before retiring from the latter as District Superintendent after 29 years of service.
Bob was a member of the Huntsville United Methodist Church until he moved his family to Moberly where he became a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He was an active church member of both and held roles as church board member, President of the Progressive Sunday School Class and the Tri-Me Sunday School Class respectively. He was also awarded a life-time membership in the Methodist Men’s Club.
He was a member of the Moberly Lions Club for 15 years, serving as a board member, Vice-President and President, and took part in many fund-raising projects for the Lions Eye Tissue Bank and Rothwell Park picnic shelter.
Bob enjoyed activities with his children, coached Little League baseball and was a project leader for 4H. He also enjoyed playing baseball, golfing, gardening, yard work and home projects.
