Obituary of Larry Joe White

Larry Joe White, 72, of Moberly, passed away Friday, July 31, 2020, at an area nursing home.  He had been in failing health.

Larry was born June 2, 1948, in Moberly, MO, to Joe Truman White and Ruby Gay (Lawrence) White.  He was a graduate of Moberly High School and lived most of his life in Moberly.  He and Shirley (Davis) were married at Jefferson Ave. United Methodist Church on June 25, 1966, in Moberly.  He retired in 2009 from Moberly Area Community College after 19 years as Plant Operations Manager.  Earlier in his life, he served as assistant manager for P.N. Hirsch in Moberly and was later promoted to manager of the Edina and Monmouth, IL, P.N. Hirsch stores.  He also worked for Missouri Transit Lines and Wolf Oil Company. 

Larry was an avid trout fisherman and could be found at Bennett Spring with Shirley and also tied his own flies. He was an enthusiastic fan of horse racing and also enjoyed dirt track racing, St. Louis Cardinals baseball, Moberly Greyhound basketball as well as many other sports activities.  He always looked forward to meeting with his former classmates for their monthly luncheon.  In his earlier years, Larry umpired summer Moberly Midget League baseball games, along with his son.

Larry was a member of Jefferson Avenue United Methodist Church in Moberly and served on many committees.  He was an active member of the United Methodist Men's Club.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley of 54 years; son, Jay White (Michelle Wolverton) of Huntsville;  daughter, Ellen Williams (Larry Weaver) of Hallsville; sister, LeAnna White of Moberly; brother, Louis Edward White (Betty) of Columbia;  grandson, Joseph White of Moberly;  granddaughters, Emily Williams of Hallsville and Zoe Moore of Huntsville; great- granddaughter, Addalei White of Moberly; brother-in-law, Mike Davis (Carmen) of Moberly; a niece, nephews, cousins, many friends and his beloved cat companion, Little Boy.

Services celebrating Larry’s life will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at Pathway Memorial Funeral Home.  Interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2020 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Memorial contributions in Larry’s honor are suggested to the donor’s choice of charity.
