To Jan and the rest of the Browett family:
I can't tell you how shocked and saddened I was to hear of Coach's passing! I very much felt I should attend the services and wanted to, but my current position requires anyone traveling outside the metro St. Louis area to self-quarantine for 14 days upon returning before coming back to work and after already missing nearly three months of work due to COVID, I really can't afford to sit out any more time. I hope you'll understand.
Coach's drive and determination are the sole reasons why Moberly High School started a baseball program in time for my junior year in the spring of 1978. I can't express enough what a positive influence and impact Coach had on me while playing for him those two seasons. He made all of us better ballplayers and his teachings made us pretty good teams right from the outset. I've been proud to say I was the first catcher and captain MHS baseball ever had and it would never have happened without Coach Browett and his trust in me. In fact, many of my successes later in college baseball and in front office work in professional baseball may never have happened if not for his efforts. He was a class act at all times, a real role model who was always a calm and patient teacher who really knew his stuff and would do anything for you.
I feel sorriest for those who will not receive the privilege of his knowledge and kindness going forward because he has left us way, way too soon. It's a terrible shame. But be comforted in this fact: I'm sure he's finding some guys to play ball with or give some tips to in Heaven right now!
Take care and know you are all in my prayers,
Patrick Daly MHS '79

When Bill first came to Scotland County, the booster club had a watermelon feed to introduce him as SC football coach. He spoke to the crowd, giving a little of his background. Most memorable was when he introduced his wife as his #1 fan, Jan! I knew right then, I was gonna really like him! Thanks for the positive influence you had in some great kids’ lives!

I had the pleasure of playing for Bill his first year at Culver-Stockton College in 1989. Many many great memories of him coaching us that season. Then, I had the unique opportunity to coach against him in his days at Troy Buchanan HS. Bill and I would talk before and after games and it was something that I will not forget. Rest in Peace coach.

When I was student at Scotland County, Coach Browett gave up the better part of a summer day to go fishing with me on my Uncle's farms. The fact that my coach would want to spend time with me outside of school still means so much to me today. He was a great man and coach. Nathan Briggs

Dear cousin Jan and Ashley and Adam. We are so sorry Bill has passed. Doesn't seem real - Bill was always energetic and full of life. He loved his sports, his family and God. The void you are feeling right now is so hard because he was the center of your family. He was easy going - I can't say I ever saw him upset. He had a way about him to soothe other's anxieties as well as I'm sure Jan, Ashley and Adam can attest to. We are glad that he is no longer suffering or existing in a broken body from the cancer but even so, the loss of Bill will be hard on many people. He touched many lives as a coach and teacher and memories will be forever close in heart for those players and students. His kindness to others will be endearing to all of us who have been fortunate enough to know him. Our prayers are with you Jan and family ~~~ words can only say so much to comfort you but be assured you will be in our hearts always. Love, The McCollum's, Connie, Daryl, Chris and Brian

Coach Browett (and family),
How lucky we are to have had you all 4 years in high school (and me in college, too) and be a part of our wedding. There are so many memories I would love to post but this space is just not big enough! However, these memories will last a lifetime! If I were to pick a song to dedicate to you-it would be "Coach" by Kenny Chesney. The last part of the song says it all..."We'll never forget you coach"......I thank God for putting you into our lives and most of all I thank YOU for all of the priceless memories. You will be in our hearts forever.........and ever. Love, Mike & Kris (Dodge) Hyde
PS. I can't wait to hug you, Jan. : )
