Mary DeHart

Obituary of Mary DeHart

Mary Francine (Smith) DeHart, 73, of Moberly, Missouri was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 8, 2019 at Missouri University Hospital, Columbia, Missouri.

She was born November 9, 1945 to Jessie Smith and Margaret Payne in Moberly, Missouri. She attended Huntsville, Missouri Public Schools.  Mary worked at Orscheln Industries for many years and after 10 years of employment with Scholastic, Inc, retired at 62 years of age

She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend, and always enjoyed helping others. Mary loved to garden and collect recipes and was a wonderful cook and baker.  She enjoyed crocheting, and was an avid reader and seasoned fisherman that was always on the lookout for that special fishing hole to catch the Big One! Her love of sports as a youngster carried over in following the MACC Greyhound basketball teams; she was also a big fan of the KC Chiefs and KC Royals. She always loved a good conversation with company; she stayed up to date on all political and current world events so she would have topics to discuss. She kept very busy with her grandchildren, and shared words of wisdom like; “Sometimes you have to be nice to people, even when they don’t deserve it” and “You can’t judge people”.  Mary always followed their sporting events and any activities they were involved in. She adored them so and welcomed the opportunity to brag about them to friends and family. Mary was a wonderful woman who touched the lives of anyone she met. She will be greatly missed.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her mother in law, Viola Barton of Moberly; daughter, Dalynne (Mark) Holly of Columbia; granddaughters, Jade Holly of Columbia and Cameo (Derrick) Jones of St. Louis; great grandchildren, Derrick Jones Jr. and London Jones, both of St. Louis; brother, Greg Taylor of Buffalo, NY; nieces, Jennifer and Jessie of Buffalo, NY; along with extended family and close friends.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents and half-sister, Marthella.
