Obituary of David Gladhart

David Neal Gladhart, 87, of Moberly, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at his home with family at his side.

David was born March 1, 1932, at home in rural White Cloud, Kansas, the fourth child of Albert and Fannie Derrick Gladhart. David walked to his one-room country schoolhouse, graduating eighth grade. He graduated from high school in 1950 at Robinson, Kansas. He served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict, being attached to Commander Fleet Air Alameda, serving in California, Hawaii and Japan.

David married Marion Hazlett on June 9, 1957 at the First Methodist Church in Edna, Kansas. They celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary June 9, 2019. Three sons and two daughters were born to this union.

David attended the Kansas City Business College, Kansas City, Missouri. He took the position as a Court Reporter for the Fourteenth Judicial Circuit in 1961, Moberly, MO. He served Judge Sam E. Semple and Judge Channing Blaeuer 36 years. He was a member and President of the Missouri Shorthand Reporter Association. He also served as secretary-treasurer of the Randolph County Bar Association for 33 years. He was active in the Moberly Jaycees, Moberly Lions Club, a member and past president of Moberly Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow.

David enjoyed his family and loved life. He especially enjoyed being with his family every summer at Loon Lake, Washington. He loved water skiing, sailing, fishing and day trips throughout Washington, Idaho and Canada.

He became a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in 1962. Over the years he served on all of the church committees. David was involved with Boy Scouts Troop 14, was a Webelo Leader and coached a Pee-Wee baseball team. He was a member of White Cloud, Kansas Masonic Lodge and later the Highland Kansas Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Marion of the home; children, Sherril (Edward) Klauck, Columbia, Missouri; Mark (Lucy) Gladhart, Deer Park, Washington; Kirk E. Gladhart, Spokane Valley, Washington; Diane (Matt) Thornburg, Huntsville, Missouri; and Eric (Julia) Gladhart, Munich, Germany; Grandchildren, Alisha, Jessica, Allison, Benjamin, Haiden, Chelsey, Owen, Luke, and Valentina; step grandchildren, Clifford and George Thornburg; great grandchildren, Stella, Kasper and Eddie; sister, Geneva Krieg of Overland Park, KS; nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and their wives Warren (Beulah) Gladhart; and Gordan (Lillian) Gladhart; brother-in-law Lyman “Bud” Krieg.

A memorial service celebrating David’s life will be held Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church. Inurnment with full military honors will follow at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville. A memorial visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at Trinity United Methodist church.
