Obituary of Arlene Estelle Coyle
Arlene Estelle Coyle, 79, of Moberly, Missouri, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2018 at home surrounded by loved ones.
Arlene was born April 1, 1939 in St. Louis, Missouri, to Arthur L and Esther (Stecher) Campbell. She graduated from Ritenour High School with the class of 1957, then attended Central Missouri State University graduating with a degree in Education.
On October 7, 1960, Arlene was united in marriage to James “Jim” Michael Coyle, the love of her life. The story goes that she saw Jim walk in the room at class registration at CMSU in Warrensburg and said “that’s the man I’m going to marry”! From this union they were blessed with two children, James “Jim” Jr and Michelle.
Arlene was a lifelong middle school science teacher, working in the Moberly Public School system. Many former students fondly remember how she treated each student with respect and fostered their potential regardless of their apparent situations. After retirement she mentored new teachers, stayed connected to her retired teachers’ social group, and volunteered with the buddy pack food program at the schools.
Arlene and Jim enjoyed visiting friends and family and being actively involved in their church. Arlene had many hobbies including scrapbooking, crafts, reading, and cooking – most of her efforts were for others. She taught water aerobics at the YMCA until recently. Arlene was a huge cat lover, often feeding her own and other neighborhood strays. She was an avid Cardinals, Chiefs, and Mizzou Tigers fan.
Arlene was a member of the Coates Street Presbyterian Church in Moberly where she served as a deacon as well as many other roles. She was passionate about missions and supporting the young and old. She was a good listener, comforter, supporter and a friend to many. She loved her family and close friends and she always remembered birthdays, anniversaries and other significant life events.
Arlene was preceded in death by her mother, Esther and father, Arthur, as well as her sister, Esther and her brother Richard. She is survived by her brothers Art, Mel, and Harry; husband of 58 years, Jim, of the home, Moberly; son Jim (Annette) Coyle Jr, Westminster, Colorado, and daughter Michelle (Kevin) Kelley, Mickleton, New Jersey; grandchildren Brandon (Kasey) Molina, Gardner, Kansas, Trenton Vega, Shawnee, Kansas, Ben Kelley, Columbia, Missouri, Rachael Kelley, Appalachian State University, North Carolina, Jordan Kelley, Mickleton, New Jersey, Ariana Coyle, Westminster, Colorado; great-grandchildren Niyah Molina, Gardner, Kansas and Scottlyn Vega, Shawnee, Kansas.
