Obituary of John W. Colley
John “Johnny” W. Colley, age 77, of Clark, MO went home to be with his Lord and Savior on January 5, 2019. He was at home surrounded by his family.
John was born on September 25, 1941 in Clark, MO, to John Earl and Annie Jewel (Chism) Colley. He attended Clark Elementary School and graduated from Renick High School in 1959. John began working for his brother-in-law, John Richards, just out of high school learning the heating, plumbing and electrical trades. Through the years he was employed by ACE Electric in Moberly, NEMO and Yates Coal Mines and AB Chance Company in Centralia, MO. He also operated his own business, John’s Electric, for a time.
John was a current member of Macon First Baptist Church. He grew up in the Clark Baptist Church where he was ordained as Deacon and later served as Deacon of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, east of Atlanta, MO.
On June 10, 1962, John married Helen Faye Wilson in Clark. They were blessed with 56 years of marriage after being high school sweethearts.
John served the City of Clark as Mayor. He was always willing to help anyone at any time. Neighbors often called on him for advice and to be their “Mr. Fix-It.” Through the years, he enjoyed hunting, camping and family trips out west. He spent many hours of his retired life visiting with friends, watching Gunsmoke and tinkering with his John Deere tractors. Family and friends will always remember him for his love for Jesus, his wit and his kind heart.
He is preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, Earl, Edwin and Virgil Colley; sister, Hilda Richards and an infant sister, Betty Jean Colley.
John is survived by his wife; his son, Jeff Colley of Clifton Hill, MO; his daughter, Johnna Thompson and husband Chad of Atlanta, MO; grandchildren, Rachel Couture and husband Joshua of Moberly, MO, Megan Colley of Charlotte, NC, Brittany Colley and fiancé J. B. Paul of Centralia, MO, Dakota Colley of Hill AFB, UT and Cole Thompson of Atlanta, MO; great grandchildren, Bradyn Paul, Travis Barnett, Chloe Barnett, Latham Paul and Madilyn Paul all of Centralia, MO, Kinleigh Couture of Moberly, MO; sisters-in-law, Beverly Colley of Sturgeon, MO, Mary Jane Colley of Moberly, MO and Venita Hollingshad of West Plains, MO. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A service celebrating John’s life will be held on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Pathway Memorial Funeral Home in Moberly, MO with interment to follow at Chapel Grove Cemetery in Clark, MO. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
