Obituary of George Wesley Wassmuth
George Wesley Wassmuth, 83, of Moberly, passed away June 22, 2014 at University Hospital in Columbia.
George was born January 16, 1931 in Moberly, MO to George Philip and Gladys (Purdy) Wassmuth. On February 16, 1951 he married Jacqueline Ray at the First Christian Church in Moberly.
George served his country in the United States Army from November 1951 to august of 1953. He received the Korean Service Medal with a Bronze Campaign Star, the United Nations Service Combat Infantry Badge and a Purple Heart. Following an honorable discharge, George worked for many years as a letter carrier for the postal service. He attended Central Christian church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking. George also loved to square dance.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife Jacqueline.
He is survived by his children, Kristin and Glen Gessley of Jefferson City, MO and Dan and Janice Wassmuth of Cairo, MO; grandchildren, Scott Gardner, of Jefferson City, MO, Lisa and Dan Donovan of Wildwood, MO, Christopher and Angie Wassmuth of Kansas City, MO, and Dustin and Tonda Wassmuth currently stationed at the Navel Air Base Oceana in Virginia Beach; great-grandchildren; Ryan Gardner, Isabell Donovan, Andrew Wassmuth, Noah Donovan, Emery Wheeler, Braden Wassmuth and Erabella Wassmuth.
Services will be held Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Pathway Memorial Funeral Home in Moberly, Mo with interment to follow at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, Mo. Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 25, 2014 from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
