Obituary of Lloyd Donald Jones

Lloyd D. (PeeWee) Jones, 80, of Moberly, passed away Sunday, November 23, 2014 at the Veterans Home in Mexico, MO after a lengthy struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Lloyd was born June 16, 1934 to Lloyd and Louella Soloman Jones. On August 29, 1958 he married Virginia L. Harrison in Moberly, MO. Lloyd served his country honorably in the United States Navy from 1953 to 1957 and served time in the Korean Theatre. He was a brakeman for the Wabash Railroad and then Norfolk and Southern from 1959 until he retired in 1991. After retirement, Lloyd worked for Mack Hils Inc. from 1992 to 2000. Lloyd was a car enthusiast, especially Corvettes and Mustangs. He liked going to car shows. In his younger years he loved his Harleys. He always made sure all his vehicles were spotless, everything had to be perfect. Lloyd also loved his grandkids. He spent many fun filled hours teaching them how to drive a boat. He enjoyed being on the water and always told his grandchildren to respect it. Those preceding him in death are his parents and his sister, Bonnie Cottel. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Ginger; two daughters, Kimberlee (Mike) Bowlby, of Moberly, MO and Dawn (Tony) Cross of Fort Madison, IA; grandchildren, Sam (Jessica) Bowlby of Lake Lotawana, MO, Jake (Mendy) Bowlby of Columbia, MO, Jennifer Hammes of Moberly, MO, Jamie Cross of Knoxville, TN and Zachary Cross of Hampton, VA; great-grandchildren, Brock Bowlby, Brayden French, Dain Bowlby and Alexis Hammes. A memorial service celebrating Lloyd’s life will be held Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at 5:00 p.m. at Pathway Memorial Funeral Home in Moberly, MO. Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 26, 2014 from 3:00 p.m. until time of service. Inurnment with full military honors will take place at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, MO on Monday, December 1, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Buddy Pack Program, 1021 Vandiver Drive, Columbia, 65202-1910 or the Alzheimer’s Association, 2400 Bluff Creek Drive, Columbia, MO 65201.
