Obituary of Geneveve Tallen
Geneveve Tallen, 92, passed away on December 15, 2014 at Moberly Nursing and Rehab Center.
She is survived by her sister, Koula Blake of Albany, Georgia, her nephew, Chris Tallen & wife Terri, and their two sons, Sean and Erik of Thousand Oaks, California, cousins Jenny Tallen Salas of Plano, Texas and John Perihoritis of Kansas City, Missouri along with many friends including two special friends Betty Wright and Marian Embree.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gus J. and Demetroula Tallen, her brother John Tallen, and his son and her nephew, Nicholas Tallen.
Geneveve was born to Greek immigrant parents on March 22, 1922, in Moberly where she lived her entire life. She attended Moberly Junior College and graduated in 1942 with her sister Koula.
She worked many hours at her father’s soda fountain and newspaper shop in the Grand Annex. Upon graduation, Geneveve worked at the Selective Service and then moved on to her favorite position in management at First Federal Bank until the bank was sold at which time she retired. She spent many years taking care of her mother until her death in 2000.
Geneveve was very active for over 65 years in the sorority, Beta Sigma Phi, which gave a great deal of support to such groups as Community Kitchen, Safe Passage, and United Way.
Her passions were playing bridge and watching Cardinal games. She played bridge a few times every week until June of 2014. Geneveve was lucky enough to attend the World Series in St. Louis in 1967 and see the Cardinals win the pennant.
Her family and friends will miss Geneveve’s kind spirit and gentle smile.
Services and reception will be held at Pathway Memorial Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 21st at 11am. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Moberly immediately following the service.
