Obituary of Sue Ann Jordan

Sue Ann Jordan nee Jenkinson went home to God on April 18th 2015 at Valley View Health & Rehabilitation center in Moberly Missouri from complications of Diabetes. She was 74. Sue was born December 6th 1940 in Chicago, Illinois. She was the oldest daughter of Arnetta Jenkinson nee Dahnke and Arch Edward Jenkinson. Sue lived in Chicago till the age of 13 when Arnetta moved with her two daughters to Tucson, Arizona. While in Tucson, Sue attended Catalina high school and graduated from The University of Arizona with a Bachelors in English Literature and a minor in drama education. After college she worked as a high school English teacher in Prescott and Marana Arizona before marrying and raising her two sons. Sue met Van Dell Jordan in Phoenix Arizona where they were married on May 8th 1972. She and Van Dell met at an ice skating rink in the Tower Plaza shopping center when she slipped and fell and he helped her up. Sue and her family attended First Presbyterian Church until the early 80’s, and then First Congregational United Church of Christ until they moved to Moberly, Missouri in 2006. Sue enjoyed teaching Sunday school in both churches where she shared the love and wisdom of Christ. She helped organize church programs to teach both children and adults about the greater Christian experience, and studied the history and cultures of the holy land so that she could better understand the Bible, not only through her faith but also in a historical context. Sue often gave of her time, delivering food boxes, working with clothing banks and regularly helping those in need. One of the lessons she taught her sons was the importance of generosity and compassion, which she believed was best shown not by words but by example. In her free time Sue enjoyed reading, quilting, art and music, including classical music and Jazz. She had a never ending curiosity about just about everything. She took regular trips with her family to museums and historical sites, including many of the native ruins in the southwestern states. Sue and her family traveled every summer from Phoenix to Missouri with her husband and sons to visit Van Dell’s parents, Bill and Wilmoth Jordan of rural Clifton Hill, which is where Van Dell grew up. Even in her final days Sue maintained a good sense of humor, which was appreciated by her family and many of the employees of the rehabilitation center where she spent her final days. “A new desert star that has risen into the heavens. Burn brightly, I know it is within you to do no less.” Sue is survived by her husband, Van Dell Jordan of Moberly Missouri, her sons Adran Jordan and his wife Samantha, also of Moberly and Kyle Jordan and his wife Karri of Paris, Missouri. She has five grandchildren: Aryah Jordan, Halie Jordan, Eli Jordan, Gwennan Jordan and Malcolm Jordan. She is also survived by her sister Judy Kuner of Topeka, Kansas and her nephew Brian Mitchelson. Sue was laid to rest in Johnson Cemetery, north of Clifton Hill on April 20th at 3pm. The family asks that donations be made to Cristos Center 111 N 5th St, Moberly, Mo 65270.
