Obituary of Orville Oscar Thompson

Orville Oscar Thompson, 83, of Columbia, Missouri died Monday, November 2, 2015 at the Harry S. Truman Veteran’s Hospital. He was born September 17, 1932 in Arlington, Mo. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War on the Princeton, the Yorktown, the Point Cruise Escort and part of the VA 165 attack squadron out of Alameda, CA. He was retired from the State of Missouri as the Maintenance Engineer of Ellis Fischel Cancer Center in Columbia, Missouri. Orville is survived by two sisters, Betty Grayson of Rolla, MO, and Barbara Austin of Bethel Heights, AR; his children, Tommy and Raylene Thompson of North Carolina, Belinda Thompson of Boonville, MO, Katherine Thompson of Higbee, MO, and Troy and Jeanne Thompson of Auxvasse, MO; stepchildren Lori and Jim Maylee of Fulton, Mo, Toby Welch of Fulton, MO, Dawn Welch of Ethel, Mo, and Robin and Mark Gibson of Moberly, MO; eleven grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, and eleven great grand children and 3 step great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Lyla June (Taylor) Thompson; his parents, James Harrison Thompson and Amy Alma (Childers) Thompson, his sister Bonnie Lee Thompson, and his brother James Marvin Thompson. Services celebrating Orville’s life will be held Friday, November 6, 2015 at 12:00 noon at Pathway Memorial Funeral Home in Moberly, MO. Interment will follow at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery with full military honors. The Patriot Guard will be assisting as Pallbearers. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 6, 2015 at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
