Carl L. Brockman 74 of the Cairo area passed away Dec. 1, 2016, 1:20 a.m. at University Hospital, Columbia with his family by his side. Carl was born at home July 6, 1942 in Huntsville, MO to the late Grace (Ballew) and Eugene Brockman.
Carl married his wife Darlene (Bruner) on Dec. 23, 1962 at the Woodville Baptist Church and she survives of the home. He was a 1960 graduate of Cairo High School where he participated in track, student council and chorus. He was a member of the Woodville Baptist Church and a life time member of the NRA.
Carl was a hard worker. At the age of 12 when his step-father, Tom Gorham became ill he became responsible for all work on the rural Cairo family farm to include planting crops and tending livestock. He spent his adult career working as a route salesman. He worked for Double Cola, Sherwood’s Sausage (Cairo) and 21 years for Rainbo Bread before he had an automobile accident in 1986 that left him paralyzed for 30 years.
He was an inspiration by rarely complaining despite the challenges caused by his paralysis. He loved to call on the phone to keep in touch with family and friends or to pass on a joke. He made many treasured woodworking projects. He liked fishing, hunting, reading and playing pool, cards, croquet and dice. His greatest joy was his family especially his grandkids.
He has four surviving children Melody Tompson and husband Ron of Moberly, Scott Brockman and wife Becky of rural Jacksonville, Stacy Brockman and wife Kimberly of rural Cairo and Wendy White of Moberly. Grandchildren Courtney and Patrick Tompson, Sydney and Cody Brockman, Addison and Gannon White, and Isaac and Isabella Brockman. Great Grandchild Rylan Sussen and Step Grandchildren Corina DeOrnellis and Jeremy Tompson. Step Great Grandchildren Drew and Kiersten Tompson.
He is survived by Sister Marjorie Price Shepherd and husband Wilbur, brothers Sammy and Dorman Gorham, Half Brothers Thomas Marvin and William Marlin Gorham, and sister-in-law Mary Ann Brockman. Brother In-laws Leon and wife Wanda Bruner Vandalia, Jimmy and wife Barbara Bruner of Marceline, Sister In-laws Velma Bruner Rural Cairo and Joyce Bruner of Quincy. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father, parents in-law Everett and Louisa Bruner, Brothers Harold and Willard Brockman. His hunting dog Missy and Doodle (and many other canine friends). Faithful neighbor Irvin Temple who played cards weekly until his death in March of 2016.

Funeral services will be Sunday, December 11, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Woodville Baptist Church with Brother Larry Gilliland officiating. Per Carl’s wishes he was cremated with ashes to be buried in the Woodville Cemetery and at his favorite fishing hole.
The family wishes to thank Carl’s Rainbo Bread Coworker, Rick Rudkin. Rick visited him at home almost every week for 30 years following Carl’s auto accident. Also, coworker Jim Richmond who called often and took Carl’s woodworking items to craft shows. A special thanks to Bob Edwards that visited faithfully for many years.
