Obituary of Amy Jean Petty

Amy Jean Petty, 94, of Moberly, Missouri, loving mother and grandmother, passed away January 28, 2017 at her home. Amy was born May 7, 1922 in Fayette, Missouri to Reverend J.W. and Mary Ann (Ransdell) Pearson. She grew up in a number of Missouri towns where her father was a First Christian minister. She graduated from high school in Princeton, MO and attended college in Kirksville, MO. During WWII she worked in St. Louis where she met her true love, Harold C. Petty, who preceded her in death in 2003. Amy is survived by her five children; Ann Hutchinson, Mexico, MO, Paddi McDaniel, Lee’s Summit, MO, Dr. Robert (Tess) Petty, Effingham, IL, Gary (Kathy) Petty, Dallas, TX, Penny Petty (Harold Morehead), Paris, MO; eight grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Eva L. Keuhn, three sisters-in-law; Betty Pearson, Nora P. Loveland, June Petty; brother-in-law Dudley A. Watts; cousin Margaret Ransdell, seventeen nieces and nephews and “one of my kids” Dr. Thomas Turnbaugh. She was preceded in death by her brothers; Dr. John A. (Jen) Pearson, Harold R. (Helen) Pearson, E. Shelton Pearson, and Billy Pearson; sisters Dorothy E. Martin and Mary A. Watts; two sons-in-law, Bill J. Hutchinson and Larry N. McDaniel; brothers-in-law Thomas B. Martin, William G. Keuhn, Francis L. Petty and Herman L. Petty; sister-in-law Zora P. Billingsley, and a nephew, Bill Martin. Amy will always be remembered for her joyful smile and easygoing spirit, her devotion to her family and church and her weekly card games with Harold and dear, dear friends, Nick and Shirley Davies. She was also known for her love of the St. Louis Cardinals. After retiring from Orscheln Brake Lever, she spent many years helping to care for elderly people in the Moberly area. We are forever grateful to her caregivers who gave her the opportunity to stay in her home: Rose Andag and husband Jeff Guberman, Mila Sanchez, Maria Luisa Sanchez, Mary Ann Piamonte and Betty Martin. Services for Amy will be Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Pathway Memorial Funeral Home in Moberly, MO with interment to follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Moberly. Visitation will be from 1:00 until time of service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in honor of Amy to be made to Boone Hospital Center Home Care and Hospice, 1600 East Broadway, Columbia, MO 65201.
