Obituary of Maurice Dawson

Maurice (Gus) Giles Dawson, 58, of Madison, MO, passed away Friday, July 7, 2017 at his home after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Gus was born on July 17, 1958, in Elgin, Illinois, to his parents, the late William (Bill) and Darlene Rasmussen Dawson. He married Cindy Lou Johnson on June 13, 1987. One son, Zachary Giles Dawson, was born to their marriage. Gus graduated from high school in Centralia, MO in 1976. At a young age, he farmed with his father and brother and later on became a cement mason. Gus’ favorite pastime was fishing, which he was able to enjoy into the last few weeks of his life. He also adored his great niece, Avalon, who brought him great joy. He is survived by Cindy Dawson of Madison, MO; his brother, Myron Dawson (Jane) of Madison; and his sister, Michelle Draper (Randy) of Grain Valley, MO. Also surviving are his parents-in-law, Wayne and Joyce Johnson of Moberly, MO; his aunts, Marilyn Rasmussen of Cairo, MO; Donna Lawrence of Lake in the Hills, IL, and Cathy Rasmussen of Kingston, IL; 20 cousins; and his sisters-in-law, Kathy Demirefe of Moberly, MO; Jackie Barrow (Chuck) of Moberly, MO; Marilyn Leonard (Gillis) of Moberly, MO; and Becky Honey (Mike) of Huntsville, MO. Also leaving behind are his nieces and nephews, Christine Perrmann, Danny Perrmann, Suzanne Weithofer, Sean Stith, Justin Wright, Trey Barrow, Michael Draper, Katie Cashel, Colleen Dawson, and John Michael Honey. A visitation for Gus will take place at 1:00 PM on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at the Madison Christian Church, Madison, MO. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 2:00 with Reverend Larry Thomas officiating. Burial will take place immediately after the service at the Madison Cemetery.
