Obituary of Carlene Lois Mattox
Carlene Lois Mattox, 80, of Moberly, passed away at her home August 5, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. Carlene was born November 4, 1936, in Nemaha, Nebraska to Harold Allen and Helen Millhouse Allen. She married Harley Mattox June 11, 1955, in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Chillicothe, MO. They moved to Moberly in 1959 and Carlene became very active in her new community. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #2669. She was an avid bowler with the highest average in the ladies town leagues for many years and was elected to the Moberly Bowling Hall of Fame. Carlene was a charter member of both the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Optimist Club. She served as a den mother for the Blue Birds, Cub Scouts and Campfire Girls. Carlene was very active in her church, working weekly in the church office, and in the community working for Birthright and also at the voting polls for elections.
Her hobbies included a little bit of everything. Carlene was an excellent seamstress. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and making quilts for her children and later her grandchildren. She was an enthusiastic collector of Seraphim Angels, Denim Days figurines, silhouette prints, dolls and all types of glassware. She loved her “pretties”.
Carlene is preceded in death by her parents; brother Ray Allen, and sister-in-law Jackie Allen, brother-in-law Jerry Henne, brother-in-law Ted Mattox, sisters-in-law Nancy Mattox and Linda Mattox and great grandson Michael Dowdy.
She is survived by her husband Harley; children, Mike (Libby) Mattox of Moberly, Craig (Tammy) Mattox of Huntsville, Mary Beth (Greg) Stevenson of Huntsville, David (Debbie) Mattox of Moberly, Rob Mattox of Columbia, MO, Philip (Shelley) Mattox of Moberly; fourteen grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren; siblings Fran Henne of Nebraska City, NE, Barbara Walker of Falls City, NE, Jim (Charlotte) Allen of Tecumseh, NE, Mary (Raymond) Haack of Johnson, NE, Helen (Robert) Ballue of Overton, NE extended family and many close friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, August 8, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church followed by interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, August 7, 2017, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Pathway Memorial Funeral Home with prayer service at 8:00 p.m.
