Dorothy Smith

Obituary of Dorothy Smith

Dorothy Belle (Nelson) Smith, 98 of Moberly, MO peacefully made her transition from this Earth on Friday, January 5th, 2018, surrounded by her family. She was greeted at heaven’s gate by her husband of over 57 years, Robert (Daddy Bob) Smith, son, Roger Smith, parents, Richard Lee Nelson and Nina (Murphy) Rafferty, sister, Ruth Pentlin, brother, Elmer Nelson and many others who loved her so very much. Her memories continue to live on in those she left behind including: three daughters, Ima Jean Williams, Janet Engel, Ruth Ann Taylor and a daughter-in-law, Sharon Smith. She was a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews. She was a blessing and motherly figure to 6 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 26 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom affectionately called her “Memoe”. Dorothy was the kind of lady that always had a smile on her face and would put others before herself. She had a love for life and would take in any animal that needed shelter or food to eat. She was the same way with anyone that she came in contact with by always offering them food to eat and insisting they eat even if they weren’t hungry. The number of lives that she touched with her silly sense of humor and giving heart are too many to count. She taught her family so many valuable lessons over the years and most importantly, she taught us that being rich is not determined by the amount of money you have, but rather, by your generosity of giving of yourself to others. She loved each and every person in her life to the utmost and her actions would always show it. Dorothy was there for her family during so many important times in their lives and was always there to encourage each and every one of us to be the best people we could be. She believed that we could do whatever we set our minds to. She believed in each of us, often before we believed in ourselves. She will be missed immensely each and every day but the memories that she gave us will forever live in our hearts. Our comfort comes in knowing that she is with our heavenly father and those that were called home before us. She will be watching over us and guiding our paths from the lessons that she taught us. Please join us for a celebration of Dorothy’s life and memorial gathering on Tuesday, January 9th from 5:30pm to 8:30pm at Pathway Memorial where food and drink will be provided, as that is how she would wish to be remembered. On Wednesday, January 10th from 1:30pm to 2pm, at the funeral home, there will be a viewing, followed by a service officiated by Pastor Cliff Sanders and Sister Cyndi Sanders of Glad Tidings Assembly of God. Interment will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial suggestions to Glad Tidings Assembly of God, Moberly MO.
