Obituary of Barry Charles Sturm

Barry Charles Sturm, 71 of Cairo, passed away Thursday, March 8, 2018 at his home. He was born May 17, 1946 in Leonardtown, Maryland to Billy Burdell Sturm and Mary Idola Wallace Sturm. Barry joined the United States Navy and honorably served his country from 1965 to 1969. After returning from duty he became a member of a band and toured many states for several years. He was a very talented musician as well as loving “high end”. He could play the drums, bass guitar, electric guitar and trumpet as well as sing. Barry also worked for Norfolk and Southern for many years as an engineer before retiring. He enjoyed working on vehicles especially his El Camino which he tricked out with carpeted walls. Barry was a member of Timber Lake Christian Church and will be missed by all who knew him. Preceding Barry in death are his parents and two sisters, Brenda Ann Ward and Doris Lee Cupp. Survivors include his siblings, Renelle Marie Evans and Vicki Lynn (Ron) Sollenberger all of Columbia, Fred Ward of Moberly; Fred’s son, Thomas Glen Ward of Warrenton; Fred’s grandson, Vincent Ward of Illinois and extended family. A memorial visitation celebrating Barry’s life will be held Wednesday, March 14, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.at Pathway Memorial Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are appreciated to the Central Missouri Humane Society, 616 Big Bear Blvd, Columbia, MO 65202. A Memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at Timber Lake Christian Church. The church will host a potluck dinner following the service. Please attend and bring a dish to share.
